Job Title: Migrant Services Shelter Worker (Bilingual – English/Spanish)
Job Overview: We are seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Migrant Services Shelter Workers. As a key member of our organization, you will play a crucial role in providing support and assistance to migrants in our care. This position requires fluency in both English and Spanish, as well as a genuine passion for helping people. Both full-time and part-time positions are available, and the pay ranges from $25 to $28 per hour based on experience (BOE). The expected start date for successful candidates is the first week of December.
Responsibilities:
- Bilingual Assistance:
- Communicate effectively in both English and Spanish to ensure clear and accurate communication with migrants and team members.
- Assist migrants with understanding and navigating various processes, resources, and services.
- Client Support:
- Provide emotional support to migrants by actively listening to their concerns and offering assistance.
- Collaborate with team members to create a welcoming and supportive environment within the shelter.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of services provided to migrants.
- Complete necessary documentation in a timely manner.
- Resource Coordination:
- Collaborate with external agencies and community resources to connect migrants with additional support services.
- Keep up-to-date on available resources and services to better assist migrants.
- Crisis Intervention:
- Respond appropriately to crisis situations by following established protocols and ensuring the safety and well-being of migrants.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with other shelter workers and staff to ensure a cohesive and supportive team environment.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions as required.
Qualifications:
- Fluent in both English and Spanish (written and spoken).
- Passion for assisting and supporting individuals in need.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in challenging situations.
- Previous experience in a similar role is a plus.
- Cultural sensitivity and an understanding of the unique needs of migrants.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time and part-time positions available.
- Flexible hours may be required based on the needs of the shelter.
- Pay range: $25 to $28 per hour (BOE).
